It has been a crazy couple of weeks. Business is great and I am creating some really cool work.

I designed this logo for Industrial NetMedia, it is for a local meat processing business. The client did not end up choosing this logo, but I thought it was cool and I would share it with you all. Feel free to post comments good or bad, let me know what you think. Thanks!

1) Wooden blocks (a whole board at Rona goes for about 5.00, then just cut to specs)
2) Laser copy images
3) Brushes
4) Sandpaper
5) Varathane
6) Wall mounts
7) Gesso Medium

Step 1 – I cut my boards to 8″ X 8″ and then sanded to smooth
Step 2 – I went to Staples ans gave them a couple of pictures to copy to laser prints. This is very important do not use ink as it will bleed and not stick to the wood.
Step 3 – put a good amount of gesso directly on the wood, evenly spread around using your brush. Put laser print face down on the board, let dry overnight
Step 4 – Once dry, wet down the paper with water and gently rub the paper off the wood, leaving the laser print still on the wood, let dry.
Step 5 – Once dry you will notice your print still has a slight burring to it and the piece will seem washed out, do not worry about this as once you apply the Varathane, it will disappear. Apply several coats of Varathane to wood.
Step 6 – Apply the wall mounts to back of wood (if you want to hang up) and that’s it!

Friends, I’m in love. The paper cuts are brutal.

Sexy French-folded covers, sturdy stainless steel binding and a 15-point dot grid that just won’t quit. Gridbooks are everything I’ve been searching for in life, but didn’t expect to find in one incredibly well designed package.

I’ve never felt like this before. My endorphins are leaking out all over the place.

Finally… a notebook crafted to help create better web designs. Ad Pads and Web Pads divide pages into two, three, four, five or six columns in the portrait orientation and two, three, four, six, eight, twelve and sixteen columns in the landscape orientation. At only $10, it’s the cheapest first date I’ve ever been on.

But I’ve been thinking about taking things to the next level. Maybe with a sturdy, hardcover Ad Book or Web Book for only $18. It’s a level of commitment I typically find suffocating, but for some reason it feels right with Gridbooks.

Best of all, Gridbooks are printed with pride and precision in Calgary, Canada on FSC-certified paper with recycled content. And we all know that nothing triggers pure, animal magnetism like care for the environment.

Gone are the long lonely nights plotting wireframes on cocktail napkins. I’ve all but forgotten the pain of drawing banner ads on old receipts.

I have a new desktop background for you this week. It is a picture of Edmonton Valley Zoo’s “Lucy”. I took it last summer. Enjoy!

the next step is to pick some lyrics and apply the stencils to the painting.

Now that the stencils are on the canvas, use spray paint to coat the entire painting.

Peel off the stencil to reveal the painting underneath and thats it! done!

This project was fairly inexpensive the paints, brushes, canvas, stencils all came from Micheals and cost around $40 for the whole lot. I hope you enjoyed the project!
